THE VALUE OF SCOUTING

Discovery is at the heart of Scouting. Whether it’s a campout, derby car race, or hike on the trail, we believe every adventure helps us uncover a little more about ourselves. We build the foundations for humility and compassion—strengthening character through actions—to prepare youth for a lifetime of leadership. (source BSA)

Important Update for volunteers (AB 506):

A recent bill was passed by the State of California requiring volunteers and staff of Youth Service Organizations (e.g. Scout units, church groups, and sports teams) to complete training in child abuse and neglect reporting, and undergo Live Scan background checks.

AB 506 goes into effect on January 1, 2022.  All registered BSA volunteer positions and employees including camp staff must comply with AB506.  In addition, other volunteers who are 18 years of age or older and who have direct contact with, or supervision of, children for more than 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year must complete a Live Scan background check (the digital version of inked fingerprinting) and complete online mandated reporter training.

Mandated Reporter Training is required in addition to our BSA Youth Protection Training. Volunteer leaders must complete the 2 hour training and upload your certificate at California Scouting by February 28, 2022.  Follow AB506 Volunteer Process link below.

NOTE: When upload your certificate use the following DATE format: YYYY-MM-DD
